CO₂ Legal Tourism
MAREA is a partner of the CO₂ Legal Tourism Program and integrates climate compensation into its operations, reinforcing a practical commitment to responsible tourism, climate action, and care for the territory.
CO₂ Legal Tourism is a climate management and carbon offset program applied to tourism, embedding carbon offsetting directly into the operations of participating businesses. Compensation is incorporated into services and experiences, turning each visitor’s presence into a measurable, place-based positive environmental impact. Funds generated through the program are allocated to the Cores da Mata Association and Despertar Trancoso Association, which manage conservation and restoration initiatives in the Atlantic Forest, generating local income while preserving and valuing local cultural heritage. These include forest restoration, agroforestry systems, protection of water sources, and capacity-building programs with local communities to develop nature-based and community-led tourism. The initiative generates income while strengthening small-scale farmers and Indigenous communities within the territory. By connecting tourism, Atlantic Forest conservation, and local development, the program supports actions such as ecological restoration, agroforestry, climate education, and community empowerment. Aligned with ESG principles and the UN 2030 Agenda, it offers a simple, traceable model with continuous impact.
